How to really listen
Short Reads · 3 min
The simple skill that brings people closer
Most conversations are two people waiting for their turn to talk. Real listening is rarer, and people feel it immediately.
Put the phone face down. Look at the person. Let them finish, even when you already know what you want to say.
Before giving advice, reflect back what you heard: "So it sounds like you felt left out." Often that alone is what they needed.
Key points
- Phone away, eyes up
- Let them finish
